When our Garden City class got rescheduled, we took the 3 day window to buzz home before our OKC training and Dallas classes started. The dry waller called and he said our place was done! Eeek, so excited to go see it!!!! We had a long drive from Colorado, but pulling in to our driveway and seeing the lights for the first time.....oh my goodness, it was so nice! We have had people hard at work here since we left, and it's wonderful to see it come together. It was so different to see WALLS! So what better way to spend 3 days, then PAINTING? So. Much. Painting. Seriously you all, we painted for 3 straight days. ALL THE PAINTING!!!! And I have the blisters to show for it from the roller. ;) I have to tell you a sad story..... So, we went to Home Depot and they talked to us about using the all in one primer, and one coat magic paint. At $40 a gallon, it better be, right? But with a $10 rebate, it was the same price as the mid grade paint, so why not? Money back guarantee if i doesn't cover, blah blah blah, great we'll take it! Anyhow, so we paint the WHOLE house...... My sweet momma in law came out to help edge and brought us burgers and dogs, which she grilled and served so we wouldn't have to stop working. What a blessing!!! It was a long day, but the kids worked really hard and we got the majority of the main rooms done. Paxton only fell in the paint once. Poor guy! Hee hee, you can see his "splat" mark in our orange half bathroom. Gigi came out with Nana a few times, they brought fried chicken and HOMEMADE PIE! Mmm! Gigi played games with the kiddos on the front porch. They loved it! The dark wall is called Pencil Point and was a nice charcoal color in the sample. It's turned kinda blue for some reason, but hoping when we get decor up, it will still work with our scheme. So we are feeling happy and accomplished to have SO much day our first full day home..... Then we notice that the paint was sucking into the dry wall. WHAT IN THE WORLD? (looking more grey here, yay!) We did some research, turns out, you are STILL supposed to use Primer, even if the paint comes with it already in, for new construction. We just took the paint guys word for it! So Dale calls the Home Depot manager at 10:30 at night and nicely explains the situation. Manager tells us to come back tomorrow afternoon and he'll give us all the gallons for free, which will allow us to do coat 2. They were super nice and basically paid for some REALLY costly primer for us. Now, to redo the EVERYTHING. This time, my friend and doTERRA teammate, Elaine came over to help us. She is the master edger, so we put her to work. She refused photos, but I still wanted to give her a shout out on here for her good work! (AND yummy lunch and circus cookie Braums ice cream she brought out with her.) It's not done in this photo, but she free handed the edging between the smokey wings and pencil point walls. Niiiiiice! On the 3rd day of painting, my mom had taken the kids, so we were really able to get some major work done. Haha, love my little helpers but boy did I stop a lot when they were here! ;) Here are the finished rooms....hard to see, but this will give you an idea. Boys room is a grey beige called Gentle Wings, or bird something, and it matches their comforters from the old house, perfectly. They wanted the same room with the old car signs and oil cans again. The girls wanted teal or coral walls, but went with grey so they could have wall decor in teal and coral. They really thought it through! I cannot wait to show you their new comforters I got them for a STEAL at Overstock.com. Wait, I can go grab a pic from the website, hold on... I did our room in aqua.... I re did our master bedroom not long before we moved from our old place, so I am going with the same mustard, white and aqua bedding. I have to sell the king 4 poster bed set though. Its really made for a very large master suite, with taller ceilings, which I no longer have. So I'll be listing it soon! If you are local and want to chat about it, shoot me a message!!!!! It comes with a 4 poster king sized bed frame and beautiful top crossbar pieces, a large armoire (not pictured), oversized dresser and 2 tall nightstands. It was a $5000 set, so we are asking $2500 or fair offer. This is about as close to red, white and blue as I came on the 4th of July. SIGH. It's going to be worth it! Thank goodness, the kids got to go have fun at the 4th of July parade while we worked, because we did it, we got EVERYTHING done in its 2nd and 3rd coats! Destiny walked in the parade with her friend, Ivy. We finished painting all the white window ledges, a shiplap bathroom wall and we put up VERY special Papa Don wall in our laundry room. Check it out: This blue wood comes from the fence that was on Papa's property right next door. I have been saving it for 3 years almost, so we could uses it in a special way. Tears were flowing as it went up, that is for sure! I'll keep you all up to date as we progress! We spent 13 years of our marriage working on our one and only home, which was great, but exhausting. (Seems like whenever you dig into a 1920's farm house, you find 6 more projects.)
Having a fresh, brand new build has been SO MUCH FUN! I can see why people love it so much, there are so many delicious little details to work on and plan out. Come again soon! I'll have lots more to share from the apartment!!! Oh and NO, we are totally not done traveling, the RV is still our home sweet home, but for tax reasons we need a permanent mailing address. So why not build a party barn style apartment and RV shed, and make it a FUN place to crash out when we go through Kansas!? Hugs, T
