A Day In the Life of An RV Oiler

It's morning, the sun is shining in through the shades and the natives are stirring.....I just slipped back inside from some awesome outside quiet by the lake.

It's time to wake up and get ready for school!

The females in the family seem to have the hardest time waking up, ESPECIALLY the teenager!

First things first, we can't function well with beds out, so they are put away. Blankets rolled up, pillows put in the back bedroom, and hideaway bed hidden back away in the couch.
Someone asked if the kids hate tearing down their beds every morning and I asked them, they said its still easier then making a bed, to roll up a blanket and a sheet, or push in an always made sofa bed.

Kids are responsible to make their own breakfast, and be dressed when school starts at 8:15.  We draw chore sticks, but do not do chores until later. This has been such a hit at our house! You line up and draw a stick, get back in line and draw a second. These are your "jobs" for the whole day.  This keeps things from getting boring, and keeps the kids all practiced up on the fine art of making dinner, or scrubbing a toilet.

Then its time for school!  We start the day all as a family doing Prayer, Bible, Devotions, History and Latin Vocab.  Then we divide off and work on the others things in age groups, but that's another post for another day.....

One of the things we always do, even before chore time, is make sure our Berkey is full and working to purify water for our family.  This has also been a MUST for us!  It filters water for less than a penny a gallon, and you only change filters {a chlorine, fluroide and charcoal filter set} once every 6 years.
You fill it with nasty city water, and out comes pure delicious water.  Life changing! No more hauling around 20 gallons of water under the RV that tasted like plastic.

That is super bad for you!  And the environment, no more plastic!  So this is a great solution! Best price you will find one them will be on e-bay.

Lunch is done in the Instant Pot, GREAT purchase for fast food on the go!  Or is often sandwiches or leftovers for ease.  Its hard to be teacher AND cook sometimes! :)

The kids are usually done by lunch with the exception of Destiny, who has an hour or two depending on how dedicated she was to the process that morning.

The kids MUST do the chore sticks they drew that morning, before heading outside to play and enjoy the rest of the day.

We play the rest of the day away, make and eat supper as a family which I adore.  If I have a class I head out around bedtime, if I don't we do a family walk, and get out the bikes for a quick ride around the RV park or nearby bike trail.  Sophie rides along in the basket of course!
Prayers and bedtime kisses and another amazing day is done.....we fall asleep dreaming of the adventures the next town holds.    And that, my friends, is a day in the life of the RV Oilers!

Do you think you'll ever go back to a traditional house? Will the kids go to a traditional school for high school so they can enjoy typical things like sports, dances, etc? This lifestyle sounds so rewarding and fun, but do the kids ever complain they miss their friends and extended family? :)

It's hard to imagine going back to a stick and brick house when we love the aspect of travel so much. We decided we are OK raising up adventurers and explorers instead of athletes, just as long as they are disciples for Christ!
I asked the kids for you,
Destiny said of course misses her friends and is happy to see them when we go home, but she is so thankful to have friends all over the USA too. She said she doesn't miss them bad enough to go back to a non travel life! Haha 😊
Ty says he wants to keep traveling forever and Avery an Paxton shouted YEAH!
Great question! Thanks so much for taking the time to comment....

They make breakfast themselves... What options do you always have around for them to choose from? Trying to limit cereal and it's so hard Bc it's so easy and they can do themselves... I don't have many other ideas that meet those 2 criteria!

Oo yes I hear you on cereal but on a day we are in a rush, it's ideal!
This morning Destiny made a scrambled egg burrito, Avery often makes peanut butter toast, Paxton likes Banana boats, Ty eats everything and anything. Haha!
So eggs always, whole wheat English muffins and Canadian bacon for making egg muffins, PB&J banana dogs (pictured in back to school post), in the winter old fashioned oats for oatmeal, we have dried fruit and nut pouches available. They always can make a doterra milk shake in chocolate or vanilla with greens. Greek yogurt parfait with granola and fresh fruit layers.
Whole wheat bagels with cream cheese and a bowl of fruit. Hard boiled egg with sea salt and a piece of ham.
Ooo and our family favorite is whole wheat bagel toasted and smeared with cream cheese, dill seasoning, smoked salmon, sliced hard boiled eggs, sea salt and a drizzle od honey Mustard. Heaven!

Do the two younger ones do their own clothes too? My college aged didn't do theirs!! Are they responsible for drying, folding and putting away too?

Yes they sure do! So laundry helper has to help me sort and is responsible for keeping the loads going. Then we put all clean laundry on the bed and my helper folds and stacks per person. Each person must put away their own laundry. It's all immediate and daily because we don't have room for laundry piles! Haha its actually a lot less overwhelming then at home because I stay on top of it AND our clothes are all in one room.
